Jeff Ifrah to Host Panel on iGaming with NBA

GiGse has been the largest gathering of iGaming professionals from around the world.

Washington, D.C. - February 14, 2018 /MarketersMedia/ —

Attorney and iGaming investor and legal expert Jeff Ifrah has made his mark on the upcoming industry of virtual gaming and is being asked to lead a panel at the Global Interactive Summit and Expo to discuss the future of the growing market and the legalities surrounding sports betting and regulations. Ifrah will be presenting and moderating an interview with Vice President and Assistant General Counsel of the National Basketball Association, Dan Spillane, at the GiGse trade convention (Global Interactive Gaming Summit and Expo) in San Francisco to discuss the NBA’s significant shift in its opinion on sports-betting, and the future possibility of its regulation in the U.S.

Since 2011, GiGse has been the largest gathering of iGaming professionals from around the world who come to network, learn about new industry trends, and stay current on evolving gaming law. Ifrah’s highly anticipated interview with Spillane, which marks the first time a professional sports representative has participated in a gaming conference, will be enhanced by previously recorded interviews of leaders within the English Premier League, and leading US legislators pushing for sports betting regulation, all of which have been produced exclusively for the GiGse plenary session.

The NBA created a media stir with a notable November 2014 editorial by Commissioner Adam Silver, which called for the U.S. federal government to legalize sports betting as a way to make the inevitable pastime more transparent, safer for bettors, and subject to strict regulatory oversight. Illegal betting already accounts for $400 billion in wagers, by some estimates, primarily through unregulated offshore Internet services or the old fashioned backroom bookie. The article sent a seismic shock through the professional sports world, as the official NBA position for over twenty years had consistently opposed any expansion of sports betting. “Times are changing fast,” said Jeff Ifrah. “Ideas that were once unthinkable ten or even five years ago are now becoming more accepted as logic begins to supersede antiquated and sometimes arbitrary morality laws. The advantages of legal, regulated gambling clearly outweigh the negatives. Gambling happens, and no laws can stop it. But it can be taken out of the shadows to make it safer for everyone involved, especially the consumer who is currently at the mercy of unknown foreign website operators with no recourse for fraud. It’s great to see a prominent organization like the NBA take a bold position on the issue, and I look forward to my discussion with Dan Spillane at GiGse in April.”

Jeff Ifrah is the founding partner of Ifrah Law, based in Washington, DC, practicing law for more than twenty years, licensed to practice in New York, New Jersey, and Washington, DC. For four years in a row, Chambers USA has recognized him as one of the leading U.S. attorneys for litigation in the areas of Gaming and Licensing, as well as White Collar Crime and Government Investigations. Most recently he was named “Local Litigation Star” in the District of Columbia by publication Benchmark Litigation. He has won numerous legal victories in criminal and civil antitrust suits, representing some of the biggest corporations in the country within the industries of healthcare, pharmaceuticals and technology.

Nov 18, 2018

PHOENIX — Paul George scored 32 points, Steven Adams added 26 and the Oklahoma City Thunder beat the Phoenix Suns 110-100 on Saturday night, their 10th victory in 11 games. The Thunder played without Russell Westbrook for the sixth straight game. He missed the first five with a sprained ankle, but the team said his absence on Saturday was for "personal reasons." But Oklahoma City was in control most of the night anyway, leading by as many as 18 points and beating the Suns for the third time this season with two of the victories coming without Westbrook. T.J. S. Korea's 'Garlic Girls' accuse coaches of derailing team

Nov 18, 2018

SEOUL, South Korea — The Garlic Girls, South Korea's hugely popular Olympic silver medalist curlers, accused their coaches Thursday of ruining the team with abusive treatment in a dispute that has spoiled one of the year's feel-good sports stories. The women's claims, if confirmed, suggest a familiar tale of abuse, corruption and nepotism that has regularly marred South Korea's highly hierarchical elite sports scene. Men often run South Korean sports efforts, and while the team's head coach is a woman, men in her family, including her father, a former leading figure in South Korean curling, play a prominent part in...

Heat beat Nets 120-107 to end three-game losing streak

Nov 18, 2018

NEW YORK — Tyler Johnson scored a season-high 24 points, Goran Dragic had 21 and the Miami Heat beat the short-handed Brooklyn Nets 120-107 on Wednesday night to snap a three-game losing streak. Josh Richardson added 15 points and Hassan Whiteside had 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Heat. They never trailed and led by as much as 23, rediscovering their defense after some poor outings during their skid. Spencer Dinwiddie scored 18 points for the Nets in their first game since losing leading scorer Caris LeVert to a dislocated right foot. He could return this season from what...

WADA: Scott wasn't bullied but more interviews needed

Nov 18, 2018

World Anti-Doping Agency investigators found no evidence athletes' representative Beckie Scott was bullied at a recent meeting, but more people need to be interviewed to determine what happened. Scott's bullying allegation has dominated much of the global anti-doping conversation since she revealed it last month, saying she was mistreated at a September meeting at which WADA's executive committee reinstated Russia's suspended anti-doping agency. Scott disagreed with a decision to reinstate Russia's suspended anti-doping agency. The committee met again Wednesday, this time in Baku, Azerbaijan, and received word that while investigators found there was no evidence that the bullying had taken...

Jones helps Packers run away for 31-12 win over Dolphins

Nov 18, 2018

GREEN BAY, Wis. — For a change, it was the Packers in a runaway. Aaron Jones ran for career highs of 145 yards and two scores, Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams connected for two touchdown passes and the Green Bay beat the Miami Dolphins 31-12 on Sunday. The Packers (4-4-1) pulled away in the second half, sandwiching scoring drives around cornerback Bashaud Breeland's interception deep in Miami territory. Green Bay went ahead 28-12 on Adams' 25-yard touchdown catch with 7:24 left in the third quarter. "This league has always been about big plays," coach Mike McCarthy said. "You can't score...
