Aug 19, 2018

BOSTON — Jalen Beeks made his major league debut at Fenway Park earlier this season, and it didn't go well. Neither did his next appearance on that mound. Traded away by Boston last month, Beeks returned Sunday with the Tampa Bay Rays and fared a lot better. Beeks pitched four strong innings and the Rays limited Boston to two singles, blanking the AL East leaders 2-0. "I didn't pitch well here the first two times I pitched here, so it felt good here to get the team a win," Beeks said. "It was satisfying." The 25-year-old lefty was tagged for...

The Cardinals lost for just the second time in their last 12 games. Chacin (13-4) entered the game 0-7 with a 6.90 ERA in nine career games against the Cardinals, but shut them out through six innings as the Brewers avoided their first three-game sweep at St....

IndyCar driver Wickens flown to hospital after scary crash

Aug 19, 2018

LONG POND, Pa. — IndyCar driver Robert Wickens was taken by helicopter for medical treatment following a violent wreck at the start of Sunday's race at Pocono Raceway, where a driver was killed in 2015. IndyCar said Wickens was awake and alert as he was taken to a hospital. The 29-year-old Canadian driver was attempting to pass Ryan Hunter-Reay when the two cars slightly touched. That caused Hunter-Reay's car to careen into the wall and Wickens' car was pulled along for the ride. Once Wickens' car soared over Hunter-Reay's and hit the fence, it spun round and round like a...

Aug 19, 2018

NEW YORK — J.A. Happ stayed unbeaten with the New York Yankees by topping his former Toronto teammates, and Greg Bird hit a grand slam during a six-run first inning Sunday in a 10-2 win over the Blue Jays. The Yankees completed a three-game sweep, but lost shortstop Didi Gregorius to an injured left heel. Gregorius was hurt when he collided with Toronto first baseman Kendrys Morales beating an infield hit in the first, and was taken to a hospital for evaluation. Rookie Miguel Andujar drove in two runs and backup infielder Ronald Torreyes, who replaced Gregorius, added three hits....
