Coleman Wong fights back to make Asian Games final

RTHK - Oct 2, 2026

Hong Kong, China tennis star Coleman Wong on Friday continued his red-hot form at the Asian Games in Japan, advancing to the gold medal match of the men's singles tournament after a spirited three-set fightback against Uzbekistan's Khumoyun Sultanov. Wong, ranked 100th in the world, battled from a set down to win 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 at Higashiyama Park Tennis Centre. The top-ranked SAR player will next face the national team's Wu Yibing or Japan's Hayato Matsuoka. Regardless of the final's outcome, it would be Hong Kong's first singles medal at the Games. Despite a shaky start in the opening set of the semi-final, Wong managed to find his rhythm in the second despite a strong performance from his 439th-ranked Uzbek opponent that featured seven aces. Wong was also in control of the third and deciding set, firing four aces of his own to round out the victory in just over two hours. Edited by Edmond Fong
