Under Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism Raistlin Lau on Monday said sport serves as a bridge connecting society, and live broadcasts of athletes’ efforts could unite the people of Hong Kong. Lau was speaking at the launch ceremony for RTHK’s live coverage of the 5th Asian Para Games which will be held in Japan between October 18-24. He said athletes, coaches and staff members of the Hong Kong, China delegation were well-prepared for the event. “The journeys of athletes with disabilities are full of inspiring stories. On their path to pursuing their dreams, they have overcome one challenge after another – greater than those faced by many of us and requiring more courage,” he said. “Their success is built on countless drops of sweat, perseverance and courage. Competing for the SAR, they demonstrate the Hong Kong spirit of rising to challenges and never giving up.” Others attending the ceremony included President of the China Hong Kong Paralympic Committee Jenny Fung, Director of Broadcasting Angelina Kwan and Chairwoman of the RTHK Board of Advisors Melissa Pang. With the support of the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau, RTHK will provide live coverage of Asian Para Games action from October 16, along with Sunday's opening ceremony.
